The workplace of the future is a hybrid

In September 2021, it was announced that those who had been working at home due to the pandemic could return to their offices at the end of the month. Nice to have everything back to normal, you might think? The only problem is that nothing is going back to normal.

When we go back to the office again, it is to a hybrid workplace. Many people want – and expect – to continue working partly from home. It has worked well and it has made everyday life easier.

Managers must be quick to create a hybrid where it is possible to participate on site or digitally. Here, we dare to stick our necks out and take it so far that it is about retaining your employees. Just listen to these numbers:

According to Microsoft's Work trend index External link., 42% of Swedes are considering changing jobs. 15% have already decided to do so.

Here's what you need to think about:

  • Digital leadership
Companies and organisations need to adapt leadership to remote work. All employees need to feel seen and be able to perform well – no matter where they are. Otherwise, you risk a fragmented business and employees moving on.
  • Modern intranet
During the pandemic, businesses have invested in new technology in the hope of solving the work-from-home situation. This has made the intranet even more important. Think of it as a hub for all communication (for example, guidelines on what works in your hybrid workplace) and a repository of tools and systems (so your employees can easily find their way around).

The intranet is also a way for HR, for example, to get closer to employees and find out what they are thinking and how they are feeling. Remember, 42% are thinking of changing jobs. This is where we need to ask, learn from the answers and move in the right direction.

Internet of senses

We asked Sitevision's digital workplace strategist Johan Nilsson to take a look into the crystal ball of what's trending in intranets ten years from now.

– The "Internet of senses" is an office experience where all our senses are digitalised through VR. For example, you can sense if your business contact is nervous, smell your boss's freshly brewed cup of coffee or if it's really true that your colleague is doing well. We can talk about effective ways to read how employees are doing, even when they work from home.
