Should AI be allowed to write the text?

– Artificial intelligence from an SEO perspective

While AI has made it easier and faster than ever to create content, there are things you need to think twice about. What happens to the quality of web texts when they become more and more similar? And how do you rank on Google when your texts are based on others already published?

As the number of AI programs and services continues to grow, offering real value to the user is increasingly important for SEO success.

AI has changed the game when it comes to quickly and easily producing both text and image content. But while AI creates opportunities, it can also be a threat.

How so?

Well, AI is good at creating generic content based on content that already exists and is already visible on search engine results pages. However, AI cannot express unique expertise based on experience in the same way as human fingers on a keyboard. Put simply, ChatGPT, Gemini and others draw their answers from a database. A database that grows as it is fed with information – but it is still limited.

If all writers were to rely solely on AI for content creation, we'd see a lot of the same thing, over and over again. Generic content flooding the web because of AI. And therein lies the threat: Quantity with low quality.

Because it's so simple, the risk for you as a content creator is that you take the shortcut and overuse AI to fill your blog with content. The result is a website filled with texts that have largely already been published elsewhere. Since you're not contributing anything new, you can't expect your pages to rank well on Google and other search engines.

Even companies that work with AI writing recognise the dilemma and hire freelance writers to produce content for their own sites. Although more and more people are using AI for content creation, the demand for skilled writers has actually increased.

Expertise and experience are unbeatable

It's clear that you can't rely solely on AI when it comes to content creation. This is partly because human insight and creativity are indispensable, and partly because content needs to be unique and based on facts and expertise in order to rank high on search engine results pages.

But how should I use AI?

Think of AI as your assistant. Skip the instruction "Write an article about ...". Instead, write the article yourself and use AI to polish it for readability and user-friendliness. Or why not ask for tips on suitable headlines for your article based on popular searches?

Some examples of tasks to delegate to AI:

  • Summarising information from a text you wrote
  • Shortening existing text
  • Turning long paragraphs into bulleted lists
  • Making a table of information you already have

Then you – the expert! – can fill in the details, adding unique insights and a depth that only a human touch can provide.

Good luck with your writing!
