A reliable emergency app for Värmland ambulance staff
Thanks to a smart app, ambulance staff in Värmland can help their patients faster. With the app, staff can, in an emergency situation, find the right treatment guideline directly.
Background and challenge
Region Värmland previously had another app for ambulance staff, but the problem was that the administration interface was limiting. Content needed to be published in several steps and the documents always ended up in several different places.
– It built a lot of administration and meant the risk of errors with version management, explains Emil Palm, system administrator at the ambulance service.
Solution
Simple and intuitive
Sitevision came up and the work of developing a new and more flexible app could begin. The goal was to create such a simple administration interface that, in principle, no training would be needed to learn how to get the right documents. And it turned out to be the simple and intuitive app we had hoped for.
Smart filtering
So how does the app work? Well, when the paramedics arrive at the patient's location, they use a filtering function to quickly get the right treatment guidelines.
– For example, we enter the age, type of injury and symptoms. This could be an adult male who we notice has breathing problems and is also showing signs of an allergic reaction. Once we have entered those kinds of parameters, we get treatment guidelines," explains Emil Palm.
One of the major differences from the previous app is that the interface is now based on metadata. Here you filter your way to what you are looking for instead of navigating through a tree structure. The documents land in one place, updates are executed directly in the app and as an ambulance staff you are not dependent on an internet connection because the system constantly downloads a copy of the version.

More businesses are following suit
Rating the app? Thumbs up! Staff find it reliable and easy to find documents. The fact that it also has a search function with free text search was a plus.
Now more organisations within Region Värmland are starting to look at the app.
– The idea is that more units with emergency response functions will be able to use the same concept, among other things, the ambulance helicopter has shown interest. "We really have a solution we can rely on, a reliable app in emergency situations, says Emil Palm.
