Case | SML IT

Lysekil Municipality and SML IT chose Sitevision Cloud

When Lysekil Municipality and SML IT reviewed their future web platform, they faced a choice: continue hosting Sitevision themselves or transition the platform to a service-based model? They opted for Sitevision Cloud—a decision driven by enhanced preparedness, simplified management, and better conditions for future development.

Background and Challenge

SML IT manages shared IT operations for Lysekil Municipality and several other municipalities. When Sitevision transitioned to container-based operations, the organization needed to determine how to manage its websites and intranets moving forward.

Continuing to host the platform in-house would have required investments in a new technical environment; at the same time, the organization wanted to reduce its reliance on specialized expertise and free up time for operational development.

Meanwhile, demands regarding information security, digital sovereignty, and municipal preparedness were increasing. It therefore became crucial for SML IT to evaluate not only the technical solution but also the long-term impact of the choice on their operations.

– We didn't just want to talk about technology. We wanted to understand how to manage our websites and intranets in the future, identify the organization's needs, and create a platform that stands the test of time, says Nicklas Halleröd.

Solution

As a basis, SML IT conducted a joint risk and impact analysis where operations, communications and IT compared the alternatives based on security, skills needs, management and future development opportunities.

The analysis showed that Sitevision Cloud provided the best conditions for the organization's long-term work. By moving operations to Sitevision, the municipality can hand over responsibility for updates, certificates and the technical infrastructure, while at the same time gaining ongoing access to new functions.

Information security and digital sovereignty were also an important part of the decision. For SML IT, it was a strength that Sitevision is a Swedish supplier with development, operations and support in Sweden.

"We rely on suppliers in many areas, so it’s important to choose partners we trust. The fact that Sitevision is a Swedish supplier with operations and support based in Sweden gives us peace of mind given the situation we’re in today."

At the same time, the municipality also chose to invest in a crisis website that strengthens preparedness and enables rapid communication with residents should the main website become inaccessible.

"We want to spend our time developing our websites and intranets, not managing the underlying technology. When the platform is managed as a service, we can focus on business development instead."

Result

The move to Sitevision Cloud provides SML IT with a stable foundation for continued digital development while simplifying day-to-day management.

The organisation gains:

less time spent on technical operations and maintenance

a modern cloud service with continuous updates

Greater peace of mind through Swedish operations, development, and support

better conditions for developing websites, intranets, and future AI-powered tools

Enhanced preparedness through a dedicated crisis website

For SML IT, the project is not just about a technical migration, but about creating the right conditions for the digital workplace and resident communication of the future.

"The move to the cloud gives us a stable foundation to build on, while also paving the way for the continued development of our website, intranet, and future digital services. That’s really where the greatest value lies."
