Intranet on the world's oceans with Soya Group
Soya Group offers its employees a state-of-the-art intranet on the world's oceans, completely without internet.
Within the privately owned Soya Group in Stockholm, there is the company Wallenius Marine, which is active in shipping and has hundreds of maritime employees. When the group's web team was to develop a new intranet for the entire group, they were faced with the complexity of reaching employees in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, without the internet, in the same convenient way as 200 office employees.
Intranet without internet
The solution was an intranet where views, web archiving and proprietary WebAPIs create a version of the Intranet for the ships that is sent out every night by satellite.
The ships operate in worldwide traffic, and can be without a good internet connection for long periods. The challenge was to find a solution so that the ships get an updated intranet with relevant information, without sending unnecessary data that takes up space in the transmission.
The next step in Soya Group's work will be to further customize the views for the different target groups, as well as to develop the parts for booking training and holiday apartments.
