How Region Värmland increased intranet efficiency by 41%
– and got 97% more satisfied editors
When it came time for Region Värmland to update an older and in many ways slow intranet, the choice fell on Sitevision. The result? Smoother work for the editors and smarter shortcuts for the employees.
Background and challenge
Region Värmland's intranet had been patched and repaired for many years when it was finally decided to take a completely new approach to it. The intranet was sluggish and overloaded with information, which could include an individual employee's memos. It became increasingly difficult to find what was actually important.

Solution
Tailor-made start page
The goal for Region Värmland was always to create an intranet where you as a user can easily find other systems and where you can access email and calendar directly from the start page. And check and check on that! As an employee, you are now greeted by a start page tailored to you and your needs.
– The homepage is tailored to where you work in the organisation. Do you work in healthcare, are you a manager or not? Different parameters control the look and feel, making it easy to find your way around. You also have the option to move around and add modules yourself, so that it matches your preferences," explains Patrik Hamberg, web strategist at Region Värmland.
The result
Fast and accurate
And the employees, they give it a thumbs up.
– There were few who got in touch and wondered: Where has my stuff gone? And that alone is a sign of success!" laughs Patrik Hamberg.
Just over a year after the launch, Region Värmland carried out a quality and efficiency measurement to see how employees really use the new intranet. Through scenario testing, they got the answer, in black and white, that quality – finding the right thing – had increased by 28% while efficiency – how quickly you find the right thing – had increased by 41%.
A majority of test participants used the intranet search engine. And the search function is one of the parts that has received a major boost, partly thanks to the fact that the search hits are segmented. The consultant who carried out the scenario testing explains:
– It is without doubt the best performing intranet search service we have tested.
"We have really got a nicer tool to work with and the editors have got a better working environment. We are incredibly satisfied."

97 % more satisfied editors
Something that was also important for Region Värmland, right from the start, was to create a better user experience for the editors.
– Here we felt, from the very beginning, that Sitevision stood out. It is an easy-to-use tool with a lot of power and as an editor you can do a lot without being locked into individual templates.
So the platform was switched from Episerver (now Optimizely) to Sitevision. And that's why one of the impact goals was to monitor how the work in the new web publishing tool works. The goal was audacious:
75% of web editors should experience better support (from the web publishing tool) one year after launch.
Was it achieved? Of course it was! A survey of the communications department and other editors showed that 97% are more satisfied with Sitevision.
The survey also revealed that everyone finds it easier to edit an existing website, to comply with accessibility rules and to understand how the published website will look while editing in Sitevision. 94% stated that it is faster to work in Sitevision.
– We have really got a nicer tool to work with and the editors have got a better working environment. We are incredibly satisfied, says Patrik Hamberg.
